Curtain a Month Keeps Everyone Happy!

After the first Sereneview curtain was hung, the staff noticed the change with patients immediately. Not only do the patients feel a sense of calm, but the staff feels the same sense of calm, and it makes administering difficult procedures less stressful for everyone.
Maria Kendall, RN, Recovery Room Nurse Manager at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL, wanted a healing room makeover, and found Sereneview curtains online.
“I thought my patients could benefit from having that kind of imagery to focus on and have an escape,” recalls Maria. A resourceful manager, Maria found the resources in her monthly discretionary budget, and every month for sixteen months, a new Sereneview curtain was ordered and installed at Manatee.
Shortly after the first Sereneview curtain was hung, the Manatee staff got it! There had been some early resistance from the staff, before they understood the whole concept. Plain curtains had served a purpose, and why would anyone want color images?

Manatee Hospital staff noticed the change with patients immediately, and there were more smiles on everyone’s faces than before.
“The overall effect of the curtains is a change every time the curtains are pulled,” Ms. Kendall says. “It’s a reminder of what’s outside, and it’s a distraction so the procedure isn’t so scary.
“Not only do the patients feel a sense of calm, but the staff also feels the same sense of calm, and it makes administering difficult procedures less stressful for everyone.”
