Raising spirits during difficult times

Dennis DeGray, US Navy Veteran, Monterey, CA
Veterans Administration Hospital Patient

The nature scenes raise your spirit, and therefore help you in the healing process. It was so refreshing to wake up and have a wonderful natural environment surrounding my bed; it offset some of the difficult hospital experiences.

After U.S. Navy veteran Dennis DeGray fell, he spent 7 months in a VA hospital.

“A hospital can be a very dreary place, and I was given one of the Sereneview environmental curtains. It was so refreshing to wake up to it in the morning and have a wonderful natural environment surrounding my bed; it offset some of the difficult experiences.

“The nature scenes raise your spirit, and therefore help you in the healing process.

“When I left the hospital, I left the curtain behind, and I’ve kept in touch with the other guys who’ve had that room with the curtain. Uniformly, all the guys have been grateful in the extreme, and happy to look at that environment every time they can see it.

“The VA has been so supportive and helpful to my recovery that I’m out to do anything I can do to help anybody. Truly, the little touches. Sometimes at night, somebody would just come in and pat you on the shoulder, and it’s so reassuring: the human touch. The hospital needs to understand how comforting these environmental curtains are to wake up in the morning and have a scene around you that’s nicer than hospital walls.
